You Spirits That Tend on Mortal Thoughts is an outdoor, interactive performance/game augmented with GPS-based media.
You can watch my presentation about the show, delivered at ITP-NYU, here.
In Manhattan's Washington Square Park, participants meet a woman whose peculiar ailment seems to be that her emotions have escaped her.
Participants must tap into the echoes left by the ghosts of New York City in specific locations, echoes that can only be accessed using modern technology.
By engaging with the stories left by the ghosts of New York's multicolored past, participants may come to realize which emotions the mysterious woman has lost.
If participants relay the stories to the ailing woman, and try and tease out what they might have meant to the ghosts, they may be able to trigger the woman's own memories, allowing her to reconnect with her lost emotions.
Reconnecting her with her emotions may trigger the woman's own stories, giving participants a glimpse into the life of their patient.
