Medium

Medium is a one-player performance-based game where players take on the role of a character searching for someone who has died. Players need to appease the various denizens of the spirit world using only music, before they can find whom they seek. Medium was designed with a novel user-interface in mind. The game has no visuals. Rather, players play blindfolded, relying on their senses of touch and hearing to interact with a specially-built game-board, blindly guiding an orb into specific locations in order to create music. Players are helped by an actor, taking the role of a medium. this performative element ensures that the game is personal and unique for each participant. Medium was developed at the Global Game Jam 2014 at the NYU Game Center, based on the prompt "We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are".
